Gran Turismo 5 demo set for release

A demo of the Polyphony Digital's most-anticipated Gran Turismo 5 will be launched on December 17, its brand manager Penrose Tackie confirmed.
In the game, called GT Academy 2010 Time Trial, winners stand a chance to make it through to the actual GT Academy 2010.
The 20 fastest racers from each country will be selected and invited to compete in a national final.
The demo, which will be available on the European PlayStation Network, includes the Nissan 370Z and a custom circuit. This year's competition will close on January 24.
Lucas Ordenez won the previous GT Academy. He eventually drove for the real-life Nissan PlayStation team and finished second in the GT4 Championship.
A GT5 demo was available alongside the launch of PS3 in 2007.

sorry, I am interested but frankly I'll not believe anything I hear or read untill the game is on the shelves, too many false dawns with this game........

Demo is definately released on the 17th dec (importantly you will only be able to download it until the 25 th) I will stake the cheeses and pickle sandwich im currently eating on it!

I bet the PSN goes into meltdown on Thursday! As if connecting at peak times wasn't difficult enough already. I definitely want to try the new demo though.


The final product better be good. PD and Sony have really milked this one dry over the years...

OMG Dav you are so right!...This game needs to blow everything away for the next 2 to 3 yrs judging by the amount of hype its had!

And yes you are correct...it has indeed been years I suspect there will be a second crucifiction if the game does not deliver....not to mention a massive increase in xbox and forza3 sales......i beleive it will b a fabulous game but as you rightly say the hype has been going on 4 years and NO GAME can live up to that!

Still..i look 4ward to playing you all online with it.....its been a looooooong time coming!

Well, chalk up more GT5 hype on that list that isn't actually GT5! Sony and PD have both said that this is NOT a demo of the final GT5, only a time trail specifically designed just for GT Academy 2010 to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine. Which we all kind of knew, but now it's officially "not GT5", so everything could still change? Who knows.

its ridiculous isnt it theyre not doing themselves any favours by issuing contrary statements i have read official statements where they catergorically state that its a demo of gt5 as in the full game so as you say who knows?....im still looking forward to playing it though

UPDATE it is a demo of gt5 cos ive just played it and thats what it says in the game!

I don't think so, it says its a GT Academy demo, either way I hope GT5 is nothing like it, as the handling in the demo is horrific, especially hates it if you use a controller like me

I hope this will end speculation as to whether or not its a gt5 demo as im beginning to feel a bit upset that no one beleives me when I state the fact that it is a gt5 demo.

I agree totally that the handling is rubbish which is indeed worrying as poliphony have stated that they are using a totally new physics engine as this is a taste of it im seriously unimpressed!

Graphics are underwhelming too very 2 dimensional and sterile with none of the vibrancy to be found in Forza 3.

Tbh its no more than i expected it seems they are realy after making this a simulation and simulations in my experience whilst not more difficult to play always end up missing the point somehow which is that they need to be fun....and this im afraid...is not!

Oh and the musics Shite!

Anto's right, it does say "This is the demo version of Gran Turismo 5" at the beginning. But I hope it's not an acurate representation of GT5! The graphics are very Prologue-like, but somehow actually less interesting (maybe that's because the track is so empty, no other cars, etc.) The music is the same old rubbish 'elevator muzak' from Prologue too. In fact the whole thing just feels like Prologue, but with new handling. So I hope they improve on these elements before the final product as the screen shots and videos I've seen all look better than Prologue.

But I like the handling, even though I play with a DS3 controller! Although I am tempted to buy a G25 wheel with the full GT5 game. Or even before it's released so I can practice with it on Prologue, etc..



But while we're on the subject, what are your times?

Not very great (966th overall at the time, lol) which is why I think I need a G25 for the full GT5 game!

Dont think about getting the g25 mate...just get it. its awesome!
Ive not got my g25 rig set up at the moment (theres a christmas tree in the way!) which is why i cant post a time as i refuse to go back to a controller,but it looks like ive got my work cut out to beat your time!
the only driving game i play well with a controller is forza 3 (im quite often in the top 1 percent)
But GT realy realy needs a G25!
When you get one it will be a learning curve and at first your times may suffer!
But be patient they will soon improve then you will beat your previous times on a controller!

Its a world of differance and differant skills must be learned then practiced to be good on a wheel,

Many ppl make the mistake of thinking it is easier with a wheel.....lol...its not!..its just differant!..besides I beleive using a controller is actualy easier than using a wheel!.....I promise im not saying that to bash you as I hold your ps3 skills in great esteem!
But try the G25 and you will see what i mean.

It helps if youre an experienced driver in real life (as i am) If you are a skilled driver in real life you will excel with a g25
